EDITORIAL STANDARDS

From a current issue
to a careful argument.

Policy papers, legal analysis and research essays bring different methods to shared human rights questions.

A paper’s five parts

  1. Issue and scope. State the question, people affected, place and period. Date the evidence and distinguish current events from longer trends.
  2. Analytical framework. Name and cite the social theory, legal framework or research approach you use. Explain what it reveals and its limits. Legal analysis can focus on treaties, legislation and case law without requiring a social theory.
  3. Evidence. Link primary and other reliable sources. Separate facts, legal obligations, testimony and interpretation. Identify uncertainty or competing readings.
  4. Conclusions and implications. Policy papers compare options and recommend action. Legal analyses explain the consequences of interpretation. Research essays develop a supported argument and identify further questions.
  5. Praxis. Explain what implementation would look like and how outcomes could be assessed in context.

From draft to publication

An approved contributor saves a private draft. A different editor checks its sources, scope, analytical framework, reasoning, consent and conflicts; they record a review note. Approved work may then be published with a date and reviewer credit. This is editorial review, not academic peer review.

For corrections, withdraw a paper, revise it, and obtain fresh review before republication. Earlier publication snapshots remain private. Authors may use an agreed public pen name. A biography is optional and needs explicit consent.

People before content

Do not submit identifying case details or another person’s private information. Do not treat nationality as expertise. Invite people affected by a policy to challenge an analysis without implying they represent a whole community.

Roles

Authors manage their own papers and can publish after approval. Editors review other authors’ work. Administrators also approve contributor access. Signing in alone gives no editorial access.
